Edfringe day 19: The end

August 31st, 2010

Sunday 29th August meant the final day of my 3rd Edinburgh run and I think overall it’s been my most successful to date. Having been out fairly late the night before I was feeling tired for the final show but it would be wrong for me to be feeling entirely fresh after 16 gigs in a row.

Edfringe day 16: Because they arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

August 27th, 2010

After seeing Gutted on Wednesday night it was a slightly later start than normal, I managed to get out and flyer for about 11am, although a little colder than the week before it was a lovely day in Edinburgh.

I bumped in to Craig who went to school with Ruth while I was out and he came to the show along with his girlfriend who’s here performing and producing a play.

Edfringe day 15: Revenge

August 26th, 2010

I was feeling pretty well rested for yesterday’s show and was very much present while I was performing, which at this stage of the festival is pretty good going. We stuck around at the venue for some lunch and then headed home to drop our stuff off.

Edfringe day 14: Le Sac vs Pip

August 25th, 2010

Another grey day in Edinburgh and noticeably colder too. I was a lot better rested for the show and sharp enough to have some banter with the audience. Our friend Kevin (who features in the show) was in today but had to dash of directly afterwards to catch his train.

Edfringe day 13: Brendon Burns Pigeon Fucker

August 24th, 2010

It was chucking it down yesterday morning, this gets rid of fair weather flyerers and fair weather punters making targeting easier, although you do get fairly wet.

Edfringe day 10: Rain or shine

August 21st, 2010

With a fresh influx of people having long-weekends at the Fringe I got out early to promote my show, I thought it had gone pretty well and with the city really busy I was expecting the show to be pretty much full – especially as Thursday had been standing room only. Somehow though my charm mustn’t have quite worked yesterday as although it was fairly busy there were still a few seats left.

Edfringe day 5: Standing room only

August 16th, 2010

I’ve now settled in to the routine of writing a blog about yesterday when I get up, struggling with the shower (although some effort yesterday afternoon could have improved this situation), flyering and then going on to do my show…

Edfringe day 4: We are the Roaring Boys

August 15th, 2010

I started my day with problems with the shower and spent ages getting clean (there is a definite pattern emerging here…) and headed out to flyer. We have some friends in town coming to see the show, I met up with one of them just before going to the venue to setup.

I had loads of technical problems while a full house waited wonderfully patiently and I scrabbled around in cables trying to make things work. Eventually after a few heart-stopping moments of thinking my sampler wasn’t working and with a bit of help I got enough things working to do the show…

Edfringe day 3: First show

August 14th, 2010

I hadn’t done any flyering so far this year, my belief is that most people coming to see a free show decide on the same day that they’re going to come. I hit the street not long after 10am and headed for the Royal Mile, as is usual at this time of day it was clear that people handing out flyers outnumbered those looking for a show to see.

However my Remote Control Centre (RCC or Ruth to those that know her) got in touch to say there was already a queue at the Half-Price Hut and with its proximity to my venue I headed there to dish out some printed copies of my face. I spoke to quite a few people including some girls who were here for a hen weekend and the mood in general was pleasant and relaxed…

Edfringe days 1 and 2: Parking tickets and milking

August 13th, 2010

Wednesday 11th August

The first day was all about getting here, we got up pretty early (half 6) to get on the road targeting a mid-afternoon arrival in Edinburgh and despite actually missing the turn for Edinburgh the journey was easy enough.

As ever our flat is on the top floor (who exactly has access to ground floor and first floor flats here?) around an endless spiral stone staircase and one that I consider ample training for the 10k run I’m planning to do this Autumn. Getting the case up was certainly a struggle.
